Who are we?

The Byas Foundation is an NGO based in Rouyn-Noranda, Abitibi-Temiscamingue (Quebec), dedicated to bring material and financial support to the Hospital of Hope, in Pilate, North Department in Haiti. For over 15 years, thanks to our teams of volunteers and our numerous donors and supporters, we could and did bring significant help to the hospital’s development.

The Hospital of Hope was founded in 1966 by the Haitian born Father Pollux Byas, of the Holy Cross congregation. Two years later, two sisters of the Holy Cross agreed to take over the hospital’s management. Later on, the Byas Foundation was set up by acquaintances of one of them, a native of Rouyn-Noranda.

The hospital, which has developed a lot since then, serves the 65,000 inhabitants of Pilate. It is partly supported by the Haitian government, but it still depends heavily on foreign aid. The Hospital of Hope belongs to the parish of Sainte-Rose-de-Lima in Pilate. The latter is under the responsibility of the Archdiocese of Cap-Haitien.
